incremental cost-effectiveness ratio

— The difference in cost of two treatments being compared in a study in relation to the difference in their effects

Synonyms:

ICER

Full explanation:

The incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) is a measure of the efficiency of a treatment or “value for money”. It is the difference in cost between the treatment and the comparison divided by the difference in the effects; for example, the cost per stroke prevented or life saved. It is frequently expressed as the cost per quality-adjusted life year (QALY) gained.
